Side Effects Of Anabolic Steroids

If you are planning to use anabolic steroids in the near future for improving performance, looks, and/or muscle growth, it is important for you to have clear and complete understanding about steroids before initiating such use. This is primarily because while medically guided use of these potent drugs can be extremely benefits, steroid use in absence or contravention to qualified advice can cause side effects, which may be mild or severe (or temporary or permanent) in nature.

The abuse of anabolic steroids can promote the loss of hair and shrinking of the testes in males. Steroid abuse may even lead to jaundice, dramatic increase or appearance of acne, enlargement of the pores to give a rough feel and look, formation of breasts (gynecomastia), very soft muscles, and tendency towards fat deposits in men. Anabolic steroid abuse may even cause lowering libido (sexual desire) or drop in count or quality of sperm, inability to make an erection, or inability to conceive.

Abuse of these performance enhancing drugs by girls and women may lead to an increase in body and/or facial hair, deepening of the voice, irregular menstruation, thinning of the hair, and increased aggression. When abused (by men or women), steroids can even cause stopping the progress of bone growth, increase in cholesterol, increased risk of heart disease, liver problems, and kidney complications. Steroid abuse in the long term can even cause salt and/or water retention and this may make the skin appear swollen besides putting a huge strain on the heart. Some of the other side effects of anabolic steroids include paranoia, anxiety, depression, stress, hallucination, violent behavior, increased aggression, mood swings, or extremely jealousy.
