Appeal Dropped By Floyd Landis

US cyclist Floyd Landis has dropped an appeal of a suspended sentence that was imposed by a French court over a shady espionage operation for hacking the computers of an anti-doping laboratory.

A one-year suspended jail sentence was received by Landis and his former trainer Arnie Barker in November 2011 after they were found guilty by a French court of fraudulently receiving documents from the official LNDD anti-doping agency. Landis appealed against the verdict though Barker accepted it. Two former EDF executives responsible for security of the group were also found guilty.

The disgraced cyclist who has previously admitted to using performance enhancing drugs and accused Lance Armstrong of using and promoting the use of performance enhancing drugs had been accused of using a hacker to get documents from the LNDD. Landis was stripped of his title as winner of the 2006 Tour de France. His lawyer Emilie Bailly said Landis had been "ruined by the different legal procedures and does not have the means" to come to France for facing the judges at Nanterre, a suburb west of Paris.

Last year, the court fined French state energy giant EDF 1.5 million euros ($2 million) in the same trial for using the consultancy to spy on environmental campaigners Greenpeace. It was admitted by EDF that it hired the consultancy to "monitor" Greenpeace but said it was unaware that Quiros had hacked into the computer of the group's former head of campaigns for France, Yannick Jadot, in 2006.

Armstrong Must Come Out Clean, Says Former Teammate

The man who helped tip the bucket on Lance Armstrong's doping network, Tyler Hamilton, hopes Armstrong clean as the damning evidence continues to pile up.

Hamilton won an Olympic gold medal before handing it back after himself admitting to doping and said he may likely have been "prepared to go to the grave" with his own secrets before being caught. Hamilton said there is probably a lot of money at stake if Lance comes out and tells the truth but he will lead a happier second half of his life by coming out clean.

Hamilton said he frequently used performance enhancing drugs and avoided testers and added that the reputation of cycling has taken a big hit with the Lance Armstrong doping scandal but things had improved. Tyler Hamilton further added that authorities should provide some kind of amnesty for those willing to accept their past wrongdoings. "But if there's some way to continue in the sport, like maybe serve a small penalty, come clean - which will be good for the future of the sport - and then be able to continue after a small penalty then I think that will encourage a lot of people to come out. "If we get a lot more people to come out, then moving forward the sport's going to be in a lot better place. We can't move 100 per cent in the right direction unless we know exactly what happened in the past."

Hamilton also reaffirmed his admiration for Aussie Tour de France champ Cadel Evans and said, "We were never teammates, you know I raced alongside of him for quite a long time and some of my ex-teammates, George Hincapie being one of them, had told me that Cadel was a super hardworker obviously, but he was clean."

Armstrong Once Predicted His Possible End

The disgraced cyclist, Lance Armstrong, once eerily forecasted what all would happen to him if he ever got caught in a doping scandal. He said he would be losing all his sponsors and people who trust him, even cancer survivors.

Armstrong said so under oath in deposition testimony from 2005. CNN now will broadcast portions of it after obtaining the video of that testimony as part of its documentary, "The World According to Lance Armstrong."
For more than a decade, the cyclist has denied doping but this time the cyclist is under oath and possibly committing perjury in a dramatic show of defiance for the world to see.

The video provides further context and takes on new meaning in light of recent events even though much of the content of his testimony previously was made public in writing.

"What the testimony shows is Lance Armstrong's willingness to perjure himself - and not just once but repeatedly, again and again and again," said Quentin McDermott, who reported the documentary. "What it also demonstrates very clearly is his willingness to smear and vilify those eyewitnesses who were prepared to tell the truth."

When asked what would happen if he were found to be guilty of doping and whether sponsorship agreements would go away, he said, "All of them," Armstrong testified on Nov. 30, 2005. "And the faith of all the cancer survivors around the world. So everything I do off of the bike would go away too. And don't think for a second I don't understand that. It's not about money for me. Everything. It's also about the faith that people have put in me over the years. So all of that would be erased. So I don't need it to say in a contract you're fired if you test positive. That's not as important as losing the support of hundreds of millions of people."

Team Sky Riders And Staff To Sign Anti-Doping Pledge

After the damaging case of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong, who has been accused of being a serial drug cheat, Team Sky has told its riders and management to sign a pledge declaring they have never doped.

Team Sky made it very clear that those don't sign would be thrown off the squad. The team said we would ask everyone, including riders and the management, to sign up to a written policy for confirming that they have no past or present involvement in doping. The team includes Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins, runner-up Chris Froome, and top sprinter Mark Cavendish and said it wants to "reaffirm" its commitment to a clean sport.

Dave Brailsford, the boss of Team Sky, informed his charges of the policy on the first day of their end-of-season camp. The statement from the team also added that it is important to be open about the steps we are taking and Team Sky wants only those members who are free of the risks of doping and the new rule applies to management, support staff, and riders.

After the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) released a lengthy and detailed report accusing Lance Armstrong and his United States Postal Service team of widespread doping, Team Sky sports director Sean Yates who worked with Armstrong when they were both employed by the Motorola and Astana teams denied any knowledge of doping. A key member of Sky's 2012 Tour-winning team, Australian Michael Rogers who worked with disgraced doctor Michele Ferrari, also denied using performance enhancing drugs.

Most sophisticated doping program

The 1,000-page report from the US Anti-Doping Agency has described the Lance Armstrong's United States Postal Service team as running "the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping program that sport has ever seen".
The anti-doping agency sets out its case against US national icon and cancer-campaigning champion and the former cycling hero as a bully who coerced his teammates into taking performance enhancing drugs and a cheat who made payments of thousands of dollars for doping programs.
The report concluded Lance Armstrong's goal of winning made him go dependent on EPO, testosterone, and blood transfusions and he even coerced his teammates to use drugs or be replaced.
The lawyers of Armstrong attacked the report as "a one-sided hatchet job, a taxpayer-funded tabloid piece rehashing old, disproved, unreliable allegations based largely on axe-grinders, serial perjurers, coerced testimony, sweetheart deals and threat-induced stories."
The report lists nine witnesses: Frankie Andreu, Michael Barry, Tom Danielson, Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer, Stephen Swart, Christian Vande Velde, Jonathan Vaughters and David Zabriskie. Floyd Landis, a former teammate of the cyclist, said Armstrong doped and Tyler Hamilton – whose revelatory book has just been named on the shortlist for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year – soon joined to attack the American cyclist, who won the Tour de France seven times and now may face perjury charges for making a false statement that he never used performance enhancing drugs.

Benefits Of Mesterolone-Proviron Advantages

Proviron or Mesterolone originally developed as a drug for treating depression in men gained prominence as a potent drug to treat sexual dysfunction and promoting the count and quality of sperm. This drug is also used for improving the release of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone to stimulate testes so that the level of naturally-producing testosterone can be improved to a significant extent.

The IUPAC name of Proviron is 1 alpha-methyl-17 beta-hydroxy-5 alpha-androstan-3-one and it has an active life of eight to twelve hours. Proviron can be detected over a period of 5-6 weeks and is indicated medically to treat serious wellness problems such as low libido and erectile malfunction. Mesterolone also has the potential to enhance potency of testosterone when used in an anabolic steroid cycle and can be used as an effective anti-aromatase. Use of this drug is also associated with an increase in the level of free testosterone that can further promote protein synthesis and muscle gain; Proviron is equally effective in reducing the level of free estrogen in the body by minimizing ability of the estrogen receptors to bind to estrogens.

Mesterolone is even recommended to increase fructose concentration up to normal values to enhance the chances of procreation and routinely prescribed to those with androgen-deficiency, easy fatigability, lack of concentration, weak memory, disturbances of libido, depressive moods, general vegetative complaints, and irritability. Abuse of Proviron may cause side effects like pain in liver area, headache, loss of appetite, depression, unexplained weight loss, aggression, symptoms of an enlarged prostate (change in urination), acne, or hirsutism.

Tips For Using Clenbuterol-Clen Benefits

The use of Clenbuterol (Clen) should always be recommended by a qualified medical practitioner as it is an extremely potent drug and may lead to side effects when abused or of a low grade.

Like all prescription drugs, Clen should always be purchased from a legal steroid store or pharmacy with a prescription and must be used only for legal or medicinal purposes. It should never be abused or overdosed in hopes of quick results as that can lead to side effects such as difficulty in breathing, gastrointestinal irritation, myocardial infarction, skin rash, urticaria, diaphoresis, nausea, tightness in the chest, vomiting, dizziness, depleted phosphate levels, dry mouth, insomnia, muscular shivering, cardiac hypertrophy, palpitation, potassium depletion, loss of concentration, frequent mood swings, and drowsiness.

Clenbuterol abuse may also cause health complications such as increased blood pressure, muscle cramps, excessive sweating, heartburn, face flushes, tremors, and restlessness and use of this drug is not recommended to those suffering from hyperthyroidism, tachycardia, tachyarrhythmia, heart or thyroid diseases, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, glaucoma, ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. People who are administered with antibiotics, Accutane, oral 17-alpha-alkylated steroids, or hepatotoxic (toxic to liver) elements should not use this weight loss drug and breastfeeding or lactating women and children should refrain from using this drug. Clenbuterol is best stored in a tightly closed container in a cool and well-ventilated area and at a controlled room temperature of 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) with excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F) besides protecting it against heat, moisture, direct sunlight, and sources of ignition.

Advantages Of Primobolan

Primobolan (also known as Methenolone enanthate) is one of the most popular anabolic steroids in the world of professional sports. The dihydrotestosterone (DHT) based anabolic steroid is an ester derivative of Methenolone. Use of this performance enhancing drug does not lead to formation of excess estrogens that means it can be used by even those prone to excess estrogen formation.

This anabolic steroid has an active life of 5 days and can be easily detected in the urine for up to 3-8 weeks. Primobolan or Primo is available in oral as well as injectable forms and can be purchased online, with or without a medical prescription and recommended to AIDS patients for gaining and maintaining body mass. This steroid is also indicated to women with breast cancer as it can inhibit estrogen biosynthesis. Sportsmen admire it to produce more of active and total testosterone by stimulating the promotion of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and luteinizing hormone (LH) and the steroid is equally beneficial to promote protein synthesis, nitrogen retention, and muscle mass in as short as six to eight weeks.

The performance enhancing drug is not 17-alpha-alkylated, but is 1-methylated for oral bioavailability and one of the best drugs to suppress the synthesis of endogenous testosterone from the testes.

Primobolan is ideally used orally in dosages of 25 mg once a day and stacked with Deca Durabolin, Testosterone, Dianabol, Clenbuterol, T3, and Anadrol. Some sportsmen even use growth hormone or thyroxin with it. Dose of injectable Primo is 200-350 mg two times a week.

Side Effects Of Anabolic Steroids

If you are planning to use anabolic steroids in the near future for improving performance, looks, and/or muscle growth, it is important for you to have clear and complete understanding about steroids before initiating such use. This is primarily because while medically guided use of these potent drugs can be extremely benefits, steroid use in absence or contravention to qualified advice can cause side effects, which may be mild or severe (or temporary or permanent) in nature.

The abuse of anabolic steroids can promote the loss of hair and shrinking of the testes in males. Steroid abuse may even lead to jaundice, dramatic increase or appearance of acne, enlargement of the pores to give a rough feel and look, formation of breasts (gynecomastia), very soft muscles, and tendency towards fat deposits in men. Anabolic steroid abuse may even cause lowering libido (sexual desire) or drop in count or quality of sperm, inability to make an erection, or inability to conceive.

Abuse of these performance enhancing drugs by girls and women may lead to an increase in body and/or facial hair, deepening of the voice, irregular menstruation, thinning of the hair, and increased aggression. When abused (by men or women), steroids can even cause stopping the progress of bone growth, increase in cholesterol, increased risk of heart disease, liver problems, and kidney complications. Steroid abuse in the long term can even cause salt and/or water retention and this may make the skin appear swollen besides putting a huge strain on the heart. Some of the other side effects of anabolic steroids include paranoia, anxiety, depression, stress, hallucination, violent behavior, increased aggression, mood swings, or extremely jealousy.

How To Use Proviron?

Sexual dysfunction is one of the biggest fears of sportsmen on anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs, especially those using harsh or aromatizable steroids. However, this complication can easily be avoided in the first place itself by making use of Mesterolone or Proviron.

The drug has the ability to attach itself to SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) and albumin to free up a large percentage of free testosterone and may even be used as an anti-aromatase. Use of this drug has positive effects on the levels of libido, sense of well being, invincibility, and to promote the count and quality of sperm.

Proviron is ideally used in dosages of 25-100 mg per day by men and 25 mg every day by women with a full glass of water. It is not suggested to pregnant and lactating women or women who may get pregnant while using the drug and those suffering from liver, kidney, and heart complications.

It is not suggested to those already making use of Thyroxine, Anti-diabetics, Cyclosporine, and Anticoagulants like warfarin as it may interfere with their action mechanism and potency. Abuse of this drug may cause oily skin, acne, exacerbation of male pattern baldness, growth of body/facial hair, deepening of the voice, and menstrual irregularities.  Though rare, side effects like pain in liver area, headache, loss of appetite, depression, unexplained weight loss, aggression, symptoms of an enlarged prostate (change in urination), acne, or hirsutism may be experienced by some Proviron users. To maintain shelf life of the drug, it is ideally stored at a controlled room temperature of 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) with excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F) and kept away from unauthorized use, pets, sunlight, moisture, and children.

What All Are Side Effects Of Anabolic Steroids?

Anabolic steroids are commonly recommended by members of the healthcare community to individuals experiencing wellness issues. However, the use of steroid drugs is not limited to healthcare use alone and professional athletes and others use steroids for unlawful requirements and without healthcare advice. Self-prescribing of steroid ointment drugs is one of the biggest reasons behind misuse of steroid drugs and steroid side effects.

It is beneficial to note that anabolic steroids are lawfully recommended by doctors to treat sufferers experiencing wellness issues such as severe burns, breast cancer, knee or shoulder injury (joint repair), thrombosis, osteoporosis, anemia, asthma, muscle-wasting disorders, chronic nutritional deficiencies, endometriosis and hereditary angioedaema, AIDS wasting syndrome, sexual dysfunction, etc. The abuse of anabolic steroids can lead to many side effects, some of which may be irreversible in nature.

The use of anabolic steroid drugs, especially androgens, can significantly increase the competitive behavior of an individual. Though aggression is beneficial for athletes to some extent, over-aggression can make things difficult in dealing with people because of uncontrollable feelings besides disturbing sleep patterns and irritability.

Users of anabolic steroid drugs may find themselves in depressive conditions as steroid ointment drugs have an impact on the levels of testosterone in the body. Depression and other drawback symptoms often encourage users to take on steroids again when they go off them. Use of steroids may lead to dependency as users want to see themselves in top and muscular shape after prolonged use.

Bolt’s chances doubted by Lewis

Olympic legend Carl Lewis recently expressed his doubts about the ability of Usain Bolt to win another medal in the 100-meter dash. A Jamaican sprinter and a five-time World and three-time Olympic gold medalist, Bolt, holds the world record and Olympic record holder in the 100 meters, the 200 meters, and the 4×100 meters relay (along with his teammates).

It is hard to stay at that level for a long period of time and people will try to beat the champion, Lewis said.

Lewis is the only man in Olympic history to repeat as gold medalist in the 100, but even that achievement is somewhat skewed. Lewis won the 100 as part of his epic four-gold performance in 1984 and then finished as runner-up in 1988, but he was retroactively awarded the gold medal when champion Ben Johnson tested positive for an anabolic steroid. No man has ever repeated as Olympic champion in the 200.
It would be a difficult road ahead of Bolt during the London Olympics, Lewis added.

In the Jamaican Olympic Trials, Bolt has been beaten in the 100 and 200 by Yohan Blake, a friend and fellow countryman.

The 100-meter field is very open, with worthy contenders such as Blake and Justin Gatlin poised to challenge Bolt, Lewis added.

Sheen used steroids for sports movie

Actor Charlie Sheen has admitted that he did used anabolic steroids shooting for sports movie "Major League" for getting the grip of the game.

Sheen played Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn, a flamethrower with an edge in the worst-to-first baseball film, "Major League." The actor is also friend with admitted steroid user, Lenny Dykstra.

The former "Two and a half men" star kept his bad boy image mostly on film and his admission in this week's Sports Illustrated comes at least semi-unexpectedly.

Of course, drug use is barely news with Sheen; after all, his contraband-fueled outbursts made national headlines last fall, and led to, eventually, his dismissal from "Two and a Half Men." Sheen kept his badboy image mostly on film back in his 80s heyday, though, so his admission in this week's Sports Illustrated comes at least semi-unexpectedly.
"Let's just say that I was enhancing my performance a little bit. It was the only time I ever did steroids," Sheen tells the magazine (via NY Daily News). "I did them for like six or eight weeks. You can print this, I don't give a f*ck. My fastball went from 79 [miles-per-hour] to like 85."
Sheen added he used anabolic steroids for three months during filming, but soon realized the downside of performance enhancing drugs.

The Anger Management star continued that he had a smart trainer, a defensive lineman in the National Football League, and knew enough sportsmen using steroids.

US Judge dismisses Lance Armstrong's lawsuit

A federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit of Lance Armstrong aimed at preventing the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) from moving ahead with charges that the cyclist made use of performance enhancing drugs during his career.

The 80-page complaint was dismissed by US district court judge Sam Sparks who said that it seemed more intended to whip up public opinion in favor of the cyclist than focus on the legal argument.

The suit claimed that rules of USADA violate the constitutional rights of Armstrong to a fair trial and the agency does not have jurisdiction in Armstrong's case.

"This court is not inclined to indulge Armstrong's desire for publicity, self-aggrandisement or vilification of defendants, by sifting through 80 mostly unnecessary pages in search of the few kernels of factual material relevant to his claims," Sparks wrote.
CNN reported that in a footnote the judge added: "Contrary to Armstrong's apparent belief, pleadings filed in the United States District Courts are not press releases, internet blogs or pieces of investigative journalism. All parties, and their lawyers, are expected to comply with the rules of this court, and face potential sanctions if they do not."
The suit also accused USADA chief executive, Travis Tygart, of waging a personal vendetta against the cyclist who won the Tour de France every year from 1999 to 2005.

Sparks, however, did not rule on the merits of claims made by Armstrong and would allow him to re-file his lawsuit, which is expected to be filed as early as Tuesday.

Banned athletes get a brief reprieve for London Olympics

The one-year bans on four athletes from India have been pushed back by the anti-doping appeals panel and the order clearly states that the dates of commencement of the sentences have been pushed back only to allow the athletes 'to train and compete at the London Olympics'.

The last qualifying event for relays ends on July 1 at Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Asian Games double gold medalist Ashwini Akkunji, Sini Jose, Tiana Mary Thomas, and Priyanka Panwar are among the athletes who challenged the suspensions imposed by the anti-doping disciplinary panel. The athletes had put the blame squarely on Yuri Ogorodnik, the sacked Ukrainian coach.

The IAAF will club the cases of these four athletes with those of Mandeep Kaur and Jauna Murmu, who too had flunked dope tests and were suspended for a year each.
All these will be put before the CAS. In fact, the order, which came out on Tuesday, says very clearly that the dates of commencement of the sentences have been pushed back only to allow the athletes 'to train and compete at the London Olympics'.
Bans generally don't start from the date of sample collection and either begin from the date of provisional suspension or from when the order is pronounced.
The athletes had challenged the one-year suspensions imposed by the antidoping disciplinary panel to which the World Anti-Doping Agency had filed a counter appeal before the appeals panel seeking a two year ban.
A three-member appeals panel, headed by CK Mahajan pointed out that the athletes have proved how the prohibited substance entered their bodies and the panel was convinced with their arguments.
The latest verdict gives the athletes another chance to qualify for the London Olympics.

Roger Clemens found not guilty of perjury about steroid use

Former Major League Baseball pitching great Roger Clemens has been acquitted by a jury of all six criminal charges against him in a trial that was deciding whether he lied to Congress about using performance enhancing drugs.

Clemens was charged with one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making a false statement and two counts of perjury.

The current trial has featured 46 witnesses over 26 days of testimony, including Brian McNamee, Clemens' former trainer, who said he injected Clemens with anabolic steroids and human growth hormone between 1998 and 2001.
McNamee worked with Clemens when the pitcher played for the Toronto Blue Jays and later the New York Yankees.
McNamee testified that he kept needles, cotton balls, a broken steroid ampoule and other medical waste from injections for Clemens. Prosecutors have said some of the items contained Clemens' DNA and traces of steroids.
Clemens is a seven-time winner of the Cy Young Award for best pitcher.

Fresh hope for Callum Priestley

The reliability of doping violations for clenbuterol in the last few months have been raised with an outbreak of positive tests for the anabolic steroid clenbuterol at this summer’s under-17 football World Cup in Mexico.

One hundred and one positive tests were recorded for clenbuterol out of 208 urine samples taken during the tournament, according to a revelation by FIFA.

The statistics are so extraordinary that both FIFA and the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) have confirmed they will not be prosecuting any cases, blaming the failed tests on contaminated meat.
Mexican authorities admit the country has a major problem with farmers feeding clenbuterol to livestock to produce leaner, more valuable meat.
Based on what it describes as FIFA’s “compelling evidence”, Wada has also dropped its appeal against the decision of the Mexican football federation not to sanction five senior Mexican players who tested positive for clenbuterol at the Concacaf Gold Cup in June.
The news is expected to help Alberto Contador and Callum Priestley who have been accused of making use of clenbuterol but have blamed contaminated meat for the positive tests. The ban of Priestley is due to end in February, though he remains banned from the Olympics for life under the rules of British Olympic Association.

Healthy choices' session conducted by coaches and athletes

In today's competitive sports world, only a few coaches would deny that more than half a million high school athletes use performance enhancing drugs or supplements are not using to get an edge on the competition.

“It’s a problem across the board…if not steroids, it’s the supplements (you can buy at health food stores) or the energy drinks,” said LHS varsity football coach Ron Lewis. “Players might want to get hyped up before the game so they take a 5-hour energy drink.”

A health promotion and substance abuse prevention program called ATLAS (Athletes Training & Learning to Avoid Steroids) & ATHENA (Athletes Targeting Healthy Exercise & Nutrition Alternatives) partnered with the NFL to help young athletes across the country get on board with healthy choices to help their bodies perform to the best of their natural ability. On Thursday, September 22, six coaches and 38 athletes from Lakewood High School attended an ATLAS & ATHENA training session hosted by the Cleveland Browns at Browns Stadium.
The Lakewood contingent was part of 200 coaches and student-athletes from seven area schools invited to Browns Stadium to listen to experts talk to them about sports nutrition, strength training and the effects of steroids, alcohol, supplements and illicit drugs on performance. It was also a chance for the athletes to talk about the pressures they face and what might be some good ways to cope with that pressure.
“I feel it prepared us well to come back to our teams and be a leader,” Abby Boland, a senior on the girls’ soccer team said.

Verdone thrilled to sign Lions contract

Taken in the fifth round by the Lions in the 2012 CFL draft, Linebacker/long snapper Jordan Verdone is excited to sign Lions contract.

“If it doesn’t work out, I’ll be very upset,” Verdone said. “I’m definitely motivated to play for the B.C. Lions this year. My mindset is I’ll be there in 2012.”

Though he has two years of CIS eligibility remaining, Verdone has no intention of returning to Calgary, even though the Dinos offered a lifeline to his college football career.
Two years ago, he was caught up in the football steroids scandal at the University of Waterloo, a school he attended because his older brother, Jamie, went there and won a Yates Cup (Ontario university championship) in 1999.
A regional police raid at two residences at the university in March 2010, turned up a quantity of anabolic steroids and HGH (human growth hormone) which implicated members of the football team.
The director of Waterloo athletics ordered the entire squad to be tested for performance-enhancing drugs. Nine tested positive, in the biggest doping scandal in Canadian university sports history.
“It’s a football factory, man. Awesome, really cool,” he explained. “The whole program at Waterloo was thrown into the garbage can. It was a terrible decision. I was bitter for so long. But when I got to Calgary, I never thought about it again. The players, the coaching, the alumni, the organization, the support ... it’s all first class. It makes you forget how badly you’ve been treated.”

Braun vehemently denies steroid allegations

Milwaukee leftfielder Ryan Braun has disputed allegations that he took performance-enhancing substances to maintain his innocence, while accepting his National League MVP.

"I always believed that a person's character is revealed in those moments of adversity," he said. "I have so much respect for the game of baseball. Everything I've done in my career has been done with that appreciation in mind."

Braun, who won the honours after hitting .332 with 33 home runs and 111 RBI in the regular season, also thanked the Players Association for "supporting me, especially after everything I've been through the last couple of months."
Braun tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone in December. He's appealing the results this month but if Major League Baseball deems that he was on steroids, he could face a 50-game suspension. It was the 89th annual awards dinner, meant to honour the biggest names in baseball.
"Sometimes in life, we all deal with challenges we never expected," he said. "We have an opportunity to look at those challenges as obstacles or opportunities and I've chosen to see every challenge as an opportunity. This will be no different."

Andre Berto fails drugs test

Andre Berto, who is set to meet Victor Ortiz in a rerun of their epic 2011 Fight of the Year on June 23, has failed a drugs test.

Berto ironically had accused Ortiz of having used performance enhancing drugs.

‘I had absolutely nothing to do Andre Berto's positive drug test for nandrolone. Andre enrolled in the VADA drug testing program in early 2012. While using my nutritional products and protocols Andre's blood and urine were randomly tested twice before his recent bicep injury and all tests were negative,’ said Conte.
After his positive test was revealed, Andre admitted that he recently took some supplements that were not provided by me and did so without my knowledge. It is possible that one these supplements was contaminated with trace amounts of nandrolone and caused his positive test result.
My understanding is that an investigation is being conducted in an attempt to determine the culprit. I was the person who encouraged Andre to enroll in the VADA program and I will continue to encourage athletes to do so. There have been hundreds of nandrolone positive drug tests in the past that I believe were a result of contaminated supplements.
Berto tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, and has been working with infamous doping expert Victor Conte.

CSI athlete sold steroids to teammates

Billy-Bob Ward, a baseball player from the College of Southern Idaho, was recently arrested on felony charges for allegedly selling anabolic steroids to many of his Golden Eagle teammates.

Arrest of the 21-year-old Las Vegas native was the culmination of an Idaho State Police investigation.

From Kboi2.com:
College of Southern Idaho Athletic Director Joel Bate was clearly shocked by the news.
"We're obviously disappointed. We are embarrassed, but we are going to educate ourselves, and our staff. To educated our teams, to set up testing now that this is a reality that we never thought was a reality," said Bate.
Like most junior college programs, The College of Southern Idaho does not require steroid testing though it does have a recreational drug test in place.

A four-year veteran of the Bridgeton Police Department (BPD) was taken into custody for possessing 60 pills of Anavar.

British sprinter appeal against ban

A four-year ban was confirmed for Bernice Wilson, the British sprinter, after she lost an appeal against the sanction imposed following her positive test for two steroids.

The 27-year-old sprinter tested positive for excess levels of testosterone and for clenbuterol on 12 June.

An independent National Anti-Doping Panel handed out a four-year ban against which Wilson appealed, and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) confirmed on Friday that she had lost her appeal.
UKAD's chief executive, Andy Parkinson, said: "We have successfully argued for a four-year ban, which demonstrates that UK Anti-Doping always seeks robust sanctions against athletes who look to cheat the system and betray those around them.
"This sends a strong message to anyone looking to dope in the UK and gives clean athletes the confidence that we are working hard on their behalf, within the framework of the World Anti-Doping Code, to protect their right to compete in doping-free sport."
The National Anti-Doping Panel said Wilson was an "experienced and senior athlete" who saw herself as a role model to younger athletes. "Far from admitting her guilt … she sought to blame other people," the panel said in its ruling.

International surfing body plans for drug testing

The Association of Surfing Professionals is currently making comprehensive drug testing plans for screening professional surfers.

In 2012, the international governing body of surfing will come up with a policy for screening competitors and officials for performance-enhancing and recreational drugs.

The move comes after the death of the triple world champion Andy Irons in November 2010. A postmortem found he died from a heart attack and "acute mixed drug ingestion". Traces of methadone, methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth, and a metabolite of cocaine were found in his bloodstream.
Another professional surfer, Anthony Ruffo, a 47-year-old pioneer of the Santa Cruz scene in the 1980s, is facing a possible jail sentence for selling methamphetamine after he was caught with an ounce of the drug.
"We believe this is a natural evolution in enhancing the professionalism of our sport," said Dave Prodan, a spokesman for the ASP. "This motion has the full support of the surfers on tour as they want to be taken more professionally, and believe this is a step in the right direction. We have been discussing and drafting a policy with the guidance of the World Anti Doping Agency for over two years and the budget, approved at the November board of directors meeting, has just allowed us the possibility of implementing it as soon as next year."
"I have seen guys who are stoners and they drop off the scene because it is not sustainable," he said. "Athletes are training hard. The way the contests are now, it will catch up with you," Gerry Fitzgerald, a professional in Ireland, said.

Steroid use discourage bill receives approval

The legislation meant for curtailing the use of anabolic steroids by student-athletes received final legislative approval by the full Assembly by a vote of 74-2 and will now to the desk of the Governor.

The bill will require all public school coaches and non-public interscholastic sports, dance, and cheerleading coaches to incorporate a gender-specific program designed for minimizing the use of steroids, alcohol and other drugs and for promoting healthy nutrition and exercise into the team’s training regimen.
The bill (S-834/A-2454) would codify recommendations from the 2005 Governor’s Task Force on Steroid Use and Prevention, establishing measures to deter the use of steroids and other performance enhancing supplements in middle school and high school athletes.
“Many teenage athletes may view steroids as a quick way to get to the top of their game, without thinking about or even being aware of the consequences,” said Assemblyman Albert Coutinho (D-Essex). “Improving how we educate them about the dangers of performance enhancing drugs will help keep them healthy now and years down the road.”
Under the bill, the state Department of Education (DOE) and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) would work jointly to develop and implement – by the 2010-2011 school year – a program of random steroid testing of student athletes who qualify to compete in championship tournaments sanctioned by the NJSIAA.
“Coaches as well as student athletes need to fully understand the dangers of steroid use and abuse,” said Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex). “The earlier we can impress this on our student athletes, the better their health – both mental and physical – will be as adults.”

Lawyer to examine medications of U.S. soldier

The attorney for the U.S. soldier charged with killing 17 Afghan civilians on March 11, John Henry Browne, recently said that he was interested to know what medications his client, Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, was taking at the time of the shootings.

"We have to order his medical records, and they haven't given them to us yet," he said. "He was taking medications, but we don't know whether it was aspirin, heart medicines. We don't know what it was."

Investigators discovered suspected steroids were hidden in Bales' living quarters according to an internal Pentagon document.

From Pbs.org:
Browne said that in some previous legal cases, he has cited the side effects of a prescribed drug in a client's defense.
"There are a lot of medicines that can backfire," Browne said. He pointed, in particular, to recent reports about Lariam, an anti-malarial medication.
NewsHour viewers have their suspicions as well. "I can tell you that I personally ruined my life because of that substance in July 2011 and I have no memory of my actions," one viewer said of the sleeping medication Ambien in an email to the NewsHour.
"After any unexpected violent act, we search for rational explanations. Sometimes the best explanation is that reason was turned off and primitive, predatory parts of the brain took over," said Dr. Frank Ochberg, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Michigan State University.
